The Foldscopes created an entire shift in the room—students who normally hesitate in science were suddenly leaning over the tables, adjusting lenses, and excitedly calling each other over to share discoveries. One moment that stood out was when a student placed a tiny piece of a leaf under the Foldscope and gasped, \"It looks like a whole other planet!\" That sense of wonder spread quickly, and the classroom felt electric in the best possible way.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first opened the kits, they couldn't believe that a microscope could fold like paper and still show them such incredible detail. Many had never used a microscope before, so watching bacteria, onion cells, and fabric fibers come to life under their own hands was unforgettable. For multilingual learners—who often feel overwhelmed by dense science text—these hands-on tools finally gave them a way to see the science directly, without language being a barrier.\r\n\r\nWe're continuing to integrate the Foldscopes into our cell biology and ecology units, and students are now planning their own investigations—everything from testing water samples to comparing plant tissues. Your support didn't just give us materials; it opened a doorway for curiosity, confidence, and real scientific thinking. My students feel like scientists because of you, and the ripple effects will last well beyond this unit.","fullyFundedDate":1758815592580,"projectUrl":"project/seeing-cells-foldscopes-for-trenton-sci/9718177/","projectTitle":"Seeing Cells: Foldscopes for Trenton Science Students","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Brickey","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4997304_orig.png?crop=684,683,x0,y27&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1758218980777","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/adam-brickey"},{"teacherId":8824729,"projectId":9390308,"letterContent":"When our kites arrived, my students were so excited to start coloring and designing their own! They loved adding their personal touches, drawing patterns, writing their names, and making each kite unique. At first, a few students weren't very interested, unsure of what to expect. But once we stepped outside and the first kite lifted into the air, everything changed. Smiles spread across their faces, laughter filled the air, and soon they were all asking, \"When can we fly kites again?\"\r\n\r\nThis project turned a regular science lesson into something magical. Students got to see their learning come to life as they explored how wind speed, direction, and stability affected their kite's flight. They tested ideas, made adjustments, and helped each other figure out what worked best. It was wonderful to watch them collaborate, problem-solve, and celebrate their successes together.\r\n\r\nBecause of this project, my students now understand that science isn't just something you read about it's something you can experience, test, and enjoy. It was wonderful to see how eager they were to keep our classroom tidy and ready for learning each day.\r\n\r\nWe've already put our new materials to great use! During group activities, students use the labeled caddies and bins to quickly grab what they need whether it's dry erase markers for math practice or folders for writing projects. One of my favorite moments was watching a small group proudly organize their reading station using the new storage containers; they even made their own labels to help keep things neat. Now, our transitions between lessons are smoother, and students can focus more on their learning instead of searching for supplies.\r\n\r\nThanks to your generous support, my students are developing strong organizational skills and learning the value of taking care of shared materials. At our very first game, they stood taller and cheered louder because they finally felt like a true team. Things like growing their skills, supporting one another, and building school pride.
