My students love them, and we have used them in many ways.\r\n\r\nMy students read both the prose novel and graphic novel version of The Giver. The graphic novel provides an excellent support for student comprehension. Furthermore, we also practice comparing and contrasting with these two different texts. These lessons are extremely engaging and students benefit from the visual support!\r\n\r\nMy students also read the graphic adaptation of The Diary of Anne Frank. This text combines visuals with longer excerpts from Anne Frank's original diary. Students learn important historical lessons about Anne Frank's experience from this text.\r\n\r\nFinally, I use many of the other graphic novels for small book clubs. We're so excited to have these new texts in our classroom, and they are already making a significant impact on our students. We are thrilled to share with you how these books are helping to shape the way our students read, think, and engage with the world around them.\r\n\r\nMany of the books you've provided have introduced new themes, ideas, and lessons that go far beyond simple literacy. They challenge students to think critically about the world and their place in it. For instance, many of these books explore themes of empathy, identity, resilience, and cultural understanding. These stories are not only fun and engaging, but they also encourage our students to see the world from different perspectives. By reading characters' experiences and struggles, students are learning to appreciate diversity and build compassion, which are crucial skills both inside and outside the classroom.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading is not just an individual task but a shared experience. We engage in rich discussions about the books, diving deep into the stories to understand not just what happens, but why it happens and how the characters' actions reflect broader themes in society. With the new diverse books, I've been able to introduce even more inclusive ways of thinking about the world. We use these texts to develop skills like making predictions, analyzing character development, and examining narrative structure. These are skills that will serve students far beyond just reading comprehension—they help build critical thinking and analytical abilities that they can apply in any subject.\r\n\r\nThe diverse books are also allowing us to explore topics that are sometimes overlooked in traditional curriculums. We discuss cultural differences, historical events from various perspectives, and social issues in ways that encourage open dialogue. This has not only made reading more engaging for the students but has also deepened their understanding of the world and the people around them. It's been wonderful to see the excitement in students' eyes as they connect to these new stories that reflect their own experiences, or introduce them to experiences that are different from their own.\r\n\r\nSome students have especially enjoyed the new books. For example, several of our English Language Learners (ELLs) have found great joy in reading books that reflect their cultural backgrounds, which helps them feel more connected to their learning and validated in their identities. Other students, who might not have been as enthusiastic about reading in the past, have been reinvigorated by the vibrant characters and engaging plots. These books provide them with the motivation they need to keep reading and improve their skills. It's inspiring to see how students who were previously hesitant readers are now excited to open a book and discuss the characters and stories they're reading.\r\n\r\nYour generosity is helping to create a classroom environment where every student can see themselves in the stories we read and where they can build the skills necessary to succeed not just in school, but in the world. We cannot thank you enough for your support in making this possible. These books are more than just reading materials—they are tools for learning, growth, and connection.\r\n\r\nThank you again for your incredible donation. Your contribution is helping to shape our students into thoughtful, engaged, and empathetic individuals, and we are so grateful for your support.\r\n\r\nWith heartfelt thanks,","fullyFundedDate":1742144277808,"projectUrl":"project/classroom-library-for-all-students/9073668/","projectTitle":"Classroom Library for All Students!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Kelly","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7137615_orig.png?crop=862,862,x292,y15&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1600260121608","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7137615"},{"teacherId":7137615,"projectId":8067072,"letterContent":"Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, our morning fitness program has had a profound impact on the health and well-being of our participants.
