The students are currently working on a scale drawing project, using the poster paper and Sharpies that were donated from the project. The poster paper is 18 by 24, and students are taking a small cartoon drawing, and drawing grid lines over it, and then drawing grid lines on the poster paper to create a larger scaled copy. Through this project, we are meeting the Common Core 7th grade math standard regarding reproducing a drawing from a different scale and computing areas and side lengths from scale drawings. Students enjoyed the project very much, and they were very proud of their work and what they had accomplished. \r\n The other supplies, including tissues and cleaning wipes, have helped us keep our room clean and free from spreading germs. We are a low-income district, and we hate to burden our families with these needs. In our upcoming circle unit, we will use the compasses to draw circles, and find the diameter, radius, circumference, and area of circles. The students are excited to use the new compasses in the near future. \r\n Thank you again for your generosity, and we look forward to using these supplies this year and in years to come. The cushions are being used at my other work table where students can sit during work time. They enjoy being comfortable and having flexible seating options. Every other day, my students with special education needs have a period called \"Skills\". The first 15 minutes of this period are silent reading time, the purpose of which is to give students an opportunity to apply the reading strategies I am teaching and to build their reading stamina in a calm, quiet environment. \r\n\r\nAt the beginning of the year, I had, literally, no books to offer them. Due to space constraints, a class is being taught in our library, which means that I could not bring them to there to check out books. The books I was able to order, with your support, arrived during the middle of last week. Students are already reading them. One girl, Ailin, is deep into the graphic novel \"Coraline\", by Neil Gaimon. The set of Dr. Seuss books I purchased is popular with Eileen, Ashley, and Uriel because they are fun, non-threatening, and can easily be read within 15 minutes. Alan is enjoying the goofy graphic novels \"Pizza and Taco\".\r\n\r\nIn addition, this new collection inspired Evie to bring some books from home to donate to our little library. I was able to find a few fun picture books at a used book store. Our little library is growing. The new cell phone locker has already made a positive difference—students now have a secure, organized place to store their phones, which helps minimize distractions and allows them to fully engage in class activities. I've noticed more eye contact, stronger participation in discussions--the temptation to constantly check cell phones is much reduced. Now students can focus more readily on learning \r\n\r\nIn addition, the donated Clorox wipes have been a tremendous help in keeping our classroom clean and healthy. Having them readily available allows us to maintain a safe learning environment, especially during cold and flu season, and gives students peace of mind that their space is cared for.\r\n\r\nTogether, these resources support both focus and well-being, making our classroom a better place to learn each day.
