My students study biographies every year, and they are English Language Learners with Spanish as their first language. Spanish biographies like Harriet Tubman, Clara Barton, and Martin Luther King, Jr will allow the students to read in their native language and more fully participate in the project which culminates in a living museum. Many of my students have low lexile level, but need engaging books to develop their reading skills and feel engaged and successful. The books that are chosen are lower lexile, but high interest for those new readers. These book titles include Above All Else and Hold The Pickles.
