As a former foster parent (and adoptive mother), I have seen the difficulties children face when entering the system; the fear, uncertainty and displacement are palpable. Many of my students have been in that position before, and they wanted to help. These bags containing comfort items such as blankets and teddy bears allow the children to go the their new home with SOMETHING to call their own. \r\n\r\nThese bags were packed with love by my students who also wrote each child a letter of encouragement. They were then delivered to local tribal DFS programs. \r\n\r\nI am so proud of my kids, and so grateful for YOU, The Compassion Project. Life on the reservation is hard...and the long generational historical trauma often makes it harder. Learning about the Holocaust might seem like it is worlds apart from the Wind River Reservation. However, students are finding parallels in the stories of the Holocaust and their own histories of discrimination, assimilation, and, ultimately, annihilation. \r\n\r\nWe have an entire section of our library now devoted to these Holocaust and genocide resources, and students enjoyed displaying them when we recently hosted an Anne Frank exhibit in our school. My students are definitely proud of their growing library and continue to be eager to learn about other cultures who have experienced past difficulties and strife. \r\n\r\nLearning from the past is the best way to move forward in our future. However, some people in the community never recieved this opportunity. This is a way in which our students can serve the community, and learn both language skills and Video Publication at the same time. \r\n\r\nOver the last few weeks our students have been creating a Halloween/Language video for our community. As a Class we created the video wearing costumes, using the camera that was funded, saying halloween words in arapaho, and editing them in canva. We made one video of our own, and now the students are using the clips to create their own video in Canva, so they can learn to edit their own creations.\r\n\r\nThank you so much, for your generous gift!!! Students are sedintary most of the day, so being given time on the court can increase blood flow to the brain and enhance its function. The students are excited about the possibility of this equipment. Currenlty students have created shirt templates by using canva. The heat presses make ironing on tee shirts so much easier! They are student friendly, and easy to use, and they make things move so much faster. Our principal is currently ordering a HTVRONT printer and oven, so that we will be able to run a full Student Finance and Fundraising Class next semester. It is an expensive endeavor, and by helping fund these heat presses we are one step closer to that vision! Thank you so much for your generous donation to our little school!
