Book clubs are essential to my teaching practice and for ensuring students get modern, engaging, and high interest novels to read in class. While classic texts and analysis are important, I think English class should also facilitate student discourse, love of reading, and learning. \r\n\r\nThese books helped my American Literature class and were all centered on the idea of the American identity, especially through the lense of minority populations. My students loved this unit and loved being able to choose their books and still talk about such a relevant and interesting topic to their lives. They devoured this books and many students said it was their favorite unit. Even struggling readers could participate as there was a graphic novel option.\r\n\r\nThank you all again so much for providing choice to my students and supporting my classroom philosophy.
