For our annual STEM Competition, my students were tasked with designing custom therapeutic toys for children with cerebral palsy. While the students have always had the vision, this is the first time in four years they were able to actually bring those visions to life. Using the 3D printer you graciously provided, they moved beyond sketches and measurements to create tangible, functional prototypes that are uniquely catered to the specific interests and physical needs of their \"clients.\"\r\n\r\nThe level of excitement in the classroom was electric as students realized their TinkerCAD designs were becoming real-world objects. The technology allowed for a level of personalization that simply wasn't possible before. For one child who loves burgers, my students engineered a \"hamburger-basketball\" to help improve hand-eye coordination. For another child who loves breakfast foods, they designed a specialized pancake-flipping game aimed at improving wrist extension. Seeing these students transition from digital designers to physical manufacturers has been the highlight of my year; they are no longer just \"doing schoolwork\"—they are creating solutions for people who need them.\r\n\r\nThe impact of this gift is perhaps best summed up by my former students, who have dropped by the lab and lamented how \"lucky\" this year's class is to have this access. Your generosity has fundamentally transformed the educational experience for my current and future students, moving our curriculum from theoretical to practical. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for supporting this project and for empowering these young engineers to change lives, one 3D-printed pancake at a time.","fullyFundedDate":1766803954363,"projectUrl":"project/making-imagination-tangible-a-3d-printe/9817754/","projectTitle":"Making Imagination Tangible: A 3D Printer for Young Designers","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Jacobo","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6608775"},{"teacherId":6608775,"projectId":9568040,"letterContent":"I want to thank you so much for your contribution to my classroom. I have worked at Title 1 schools my entire career, and you have no idea how grateful I am to feel seen. Please know how much I appreciate receiving this donation. The color printer has allowed me to truly elevate my students' work. I teach a curriculum designed by Project Lead the Way, which empowers students to engage in various engineering and STEM-related projects. Our specific class is called Design and Modeling; it focuses on teaching 6th-grade students the Engineering Design Process, culminating in a project where students design and create a toy for a child with cerebral palsy. \r\n\r\nMy students were thrilled to learn that they will be able to print their designs in color this year, allowing them to elevate their presentations for our annual STEM competition. So far, I have already been able to print their \"Research and Engineer\" projects, and the students are so excited to see their Tinkercad designs brought to life on paper. Thank you again.
