I am currently teaching a new curriculum called Issues to Action where students analyze the current state in their community, assess their strengths and weaknesses and come up with solutions to help build upon it. For example, students identified the problem of gang violence in their community. Some students wanted to reach out to outside organizations like afterschool programs and come up with ways to prevent their fellow students from joining and for students already in gangs, a way out (options). These are 1 of many ideas and projects my students will be working on and these computers will make sure that they are able to find the information necessary to make their ideas a reality. These computers would be a class set (shared by pairs) for all of my students periods 1-6. Other students identified gentrification and unaffordable housing in their community and are discussing how to fix these issues. Thank you.
