The books in my classroom library are either not exciting enough for my students or are leftover stock from the book room. Being gifted novels of my own, for my students, well, that's a dream. \r\n\r\nWe read every day. Text messages, emails, directions, etc. We read the texts assigned in class, but we very rarely see our students actively choosing to read a book of their own. There's just something about holding a book, specifically? The smell? The memories that flood in with nostalgia, of book fairs and library trips. Kid's don't read, like they used to. \r\n\r\nWith the donated supplies (novels and floor seats), my students, from Freshman to Seniors, get a rush of excitement, peace, and relaxation when they can get a book and read, for SSR. Since the start of the new semester, I've implemented SSR in all my classes. Time was efficient because students in my large 25 student classrooms did not have to wait to get the colors they needed.
