They were so engaged and excited to learn about the world and the powerful women who are changing it. \r\nMost exciting, were the books written by Jamilah Thompkins-Bigelow, \"Sister Friend\", \"Salat in Secret\", \"Hold them Close\", \"Grounded\", etc. as we actually received an author visit from Ms. Jamilah herself! Students were so excited to meet her and listen to her stories, having already been familiarized with many of them. \r\nAll of these books will be accessible to students all year long, so students can learn about all different identities through notable women like Anne Frank, Maya Angelou, Jazz Jennings, Amanda Gorman, Mary Golda Ross, and so many more! \r\nThank you again for your extremely generous donation. These gifts will stay with students for the rest of their lives to celebrate our time together in first grade. \r\nStudents' two favorite gifts from this project were the teddy bears and photo albums. Students were told that if they ever miss their first grade class, they can hug their teddy bear tight. We shared big group hugs with the teddy bears so they know our hugs are there inside the bear, whether or not they move on to new schools or different classes from their friends- we're all still a classroom family. I told students how much the bears love to read and that they should always be reading to their bear, especially this summer. \r\nStudents spent hours looking through their photo albums, jumping with joy at each page. They would turn to their friends and say, \"Look, you're in my book!!\" Students reminisced on our field trips and class events from across the school-year, some of which they didn't even remember until seeing the class photos. \r\nThese gifts brought so much joy to students and I know they will continue to cherish them for many years to come. I was able to provide snacks for students during testing to allow them to focus during testing and meet academic growth goals. Providing snacks gave me the opportunity to provide students with something extra to eat during long testing days and also reward them for their hard work. Your donations have provided us with more than just supplies; you've given our students the tools to feel seen, motivated, and excited to learn during these final weeks of the school year.\r\n\r\nYour donations are already Solving Problems in Real-Time: The new dry erase markers are in constant rotation. In our math blocks, these allow students to work through complex problems on their desks and whiteboards, making \"mistakes\" feel less permanent and math feel more like an interactive game.\r\n The coloring markers have been a massive hit for our creative writing projects. Watching our young authors illustrate their original stories with vibrant colors has added a whole new layer of pride to their literacy work.\r\nFinally, thank you for the Sweetest Motivation. Let's be honest, finishing the school year strong is hard work! The Ring Pops have been the perfect \"Focus Fuel.\" They are a highly coveted reward that has helped our students stay on task, follow directions, and keep their energy up during these warm May afternoons.\r\n\r\nIn a large urban district like ours, these \"extra\" supplies often come out of teachers' pockets or simply go missing. With your donation, our students can breathe better and easier, which leads to happier, healthier students and increased learning.
