With access to a wide range of high-interest, grade-appropriate texts, students were able to choose books that reflected their interests, identities, and reading levels. This choice increased engagement and helped build positive reading habits.\r\n\r\nBecause of this project, DEAR time became a consistent and meaningful routine rather than a struggle to find books. Students were more focused, read for longer periods, and began to view reading as an enjoyable activity instead of a task. Even reluctant readers were more willing to participate when they had books they were genuinely excited about.\r\n\r\nThe books also allowed me to expand instructional routines like First Chapter Fridays, where scholars are introduced to new texts through read-alouds. After reading the first chapter of Tyrell by Coe Booth, the book quickly became a class favorite, generating excitement and meaningful conversations. Because of that enthusiasm, I will definitely be requesting additional copies in my next DonorsChoose project.\r\n\r\nThanks to this project, scholars were also able to read The Autobiography of My Dead Brother by Walter Dean Myers, which they had first encountered as a comparative text during our study of Monster. Having access to the full text deepened their understanding, strengthened literary analysis skills, and allowed them to make richer connections across texts.\r\n\r\nOverall, this project fostered a classroom culture where reading is valued, celebrated, and shared, while supporting students' growth in stamina, comprehension, and confidence as readers.","fullyFundedDate":1758240509102,"projectUrl":"project/books-to-fuel-hungry-readers/9719077/","projectTitle":"Books to Fuel Hungry Readers","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Russell","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp2313020_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1448302004336","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/nicole-russell"},{"teacherId":2313020,"projectId":9196015,"letterContent":"Thank you sincerely for your generous support in helping keep our classroom well supplied. Although I was ultimately assigned to teach Literature Studies rather than History as I initially anticipated, the materials from this project have been easily and thoughtfully repurposed for our current classroom needs.\r\n\r\nThe cardstock has been especially valuable for backing bulletin boards and showcasing my scholars' work with pride. As a teacher in a Title I school, access to quality supplies is not always guaranteed. Your generosity through DonorsChoose ensures that my students have the materials they need to learn, create, and thrive in an engaging environment.\r\n\r\nI am deeply grateful for your investment in my students and for believing in the power of education. Because of you, my scholars now have access to engaging, high-quality resources that make learning vocabulary, reading skills, and literary concepts both meaningful and fun.\r\n\r\nFlocabulary has already made a powerful impact in our classroom. We've used it to build background knowledge on the Vietnam War as we read our class novel, Inside Out and Back Again, helping scholars better understand the historical context and deepen their empathy for the characters. We've also used Flocabulary to review and reinforce figurative language, making abstract concepts easier to grasp and remember.\r\n\r\nThe music, videos, and interactive activities help scholars connect academic content to real-life contexts, strengthen comprehension, and build confidence—especially for students who may struggle with traditional instruction. I've seen increased participation, stronger discussions, and genuine excitement for learning. Even my eighth graders—who often insist they're \"too cool\"—aren't too cool to rap along with the lyrics while learning.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has helped create a more engaging, inclusive, and joyful learning environment. My students feel supported and motivated knowing that people beyond their classroom believe in their success. Please know that your contribution is making a lasting difference in their academic growth and love of learning.\r\n\r\nThank you again for investing in my scholars and our classroom. We are incredibly grateful for your kindness and support.","fullyFundedDate":1757683093102,"projectUrl":"project/we-still-love-flocabulary/9661368/","projectTitle":"We Still Love Flocabulary","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Russell","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp2313020_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1448302004336","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/nicole-russell"},{"teacherId":5414473,"projectId":8073959,"letterContent":"I am writing to express my deepest gratitude for your generous contribution to my 6th grade math classroom. Your support in providing essential supplies has not only enhanced the learning environment, but also equipped my scholars with the tools they need to be successful. These resources allowed me to make my classroom more interactive and keep students engaged on a daily basis. I've even been inspired to go fully digital, which has helped scholars stay focused and take more ownership of their learning. The calculators and the calculator holder have been an amazing addition I'm proud to say I haven't lost a single one thanks to the new system, and the organization it brings to my classroom has been a game-changer.\r\n\r\nMy scholars were especially excited to receive their own calculators. It gave them a sense of responsibility and pride. The colorful notebooks were another highlight perfect for note-taking during our Nearpod lessons. Students loved being able to personalize their notebooks, and we made them mandatory during tests and quizzes early in the year to reinforce the value of reference material. As the year went on, we shifted to using them as study tools, encouraging students to prepare ahead of time and build strong study habits. These supplies truly brought joy and purpose into our classroom routines.\r\n\r\nAs I look ahead to our next project, I know that continued access to Nearpod is essential to keep the momentum going. Scholars absolutely love the platform it promotes engagement, discussion, and independent pacing when needed. It gives them the autonomy to move at their own speed or collaborate as a class, building deeper understanding through interactive practice. I am incredibly hopeful this next project will be funded so that I can continue creating meaningful and engaging learning experiences for my scholars.","fullyFundedDate":1701149104118,"projectUrl":"project/tools-for-success-in-6th-grade-math/8073959/","projectTitle":"Tools for Success in 6th Grade Math","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Rivas","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5414473"},{"teacherId":2313020,"projectId":8778340,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for ensuring my scholars have the tools needed to optimize their learning. \r\n\r\nThe headphones are a crucial tool we have used during assessments.
