Their faces lit up with excitement as they explored the watercolor sets, paints, as well as the microscopes and science kits that help bring our lessons to life. We've already put these resources to use during our \"Cells and Systems\" science unit, where students created detailed cell models using art materials to show the function of each organelle. In art, they've been experimenting with blending colors and designing Zentangle patterns inspired by nature and animals. These hands-on opportunities have sparked creativity, deepened understanding, and made learning truly engaging. The colored pencils and fine-tip markers have been especially helpful in our social studies lessons. Students now vividly illustrate and label maps, highlighting key geographical features of ancient civilizations such as the Niger River west Africa or the mountainous terrain of Japan, which deepens their understanding and retention of historical content.\r\nIn addition to academic tasks, these supplies are fostering a more interactive and organized classroom environment. Our \"parking lot\" wall, where students post questions on sticky notes after class, has become a powerful tool for encouraging curiosity and reflection. \r\nDry erase markers are used daily to track student speakers and award points during discussions, helping to promote accountability and classroom participation. \r\n\r\nFrom glue and construction paper for creative projects to the simple joy of having access to the right materials when they're needed, these supplies have helped transform our classroom into a more dynamic, student-centered space. We are incredibly grateful to DonorsChoose, as well as the organizations and companies who match donations like Ripple and United Airlines. With hands-on STEM kits, students were able to build solar-powered toys, explore forensic science techniques, and investigate the science of living things—connecting classroom learning to real-world applications in meaningful ways. These engaging experiences not only deepened their understanding of core scientific concepts but also sparked creativity, curiosity, and a passion for problem-solving.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, access to items such as essential oils, apple cider vinegar, and shea butter introduced students to the fascinating field of cosmetic science. Through formulating their own products and examining the chemical interactions involved, students gained insight into how everyday items are developed and the science behind personal care products. These activities empowered students to see science as a powerful tool in both industry and daily life, fostering confidence and interest in STEM careers, especially among underrepresented groups.","fullyFundedDate":1723680747455,"projectUrl":"project/stem-enrichment/8643671/","projectTitle":"STEM Enrichment","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Kelli Bruning","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8425143"},{"teacherId":3662662,"projectId":9101412,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your donations to support project based learning in our classroom.\r\nOne of the first projects students created and presented was their design of a gift to a king and queen for our mock medieval wedding. They had to draw and explain a gift someone in their position in feudal European society (knight, lord, peasant, etc) would gift a king or queen. \r\nBecause of your generosity, students were able to have the art supplies and construction paper needed to make, present, and display their drawings in class. During the presentations students were able to also taste test food from the medieval period and clean up using the cleaning supplies provided from your donations. Students expressed that they enjoyed the experience, and we have a ton of materials left over for our next project: creating brochures to highlight medieval West African empires! Students will also be sharing these to one another in class and they will be displayed in our halls.","fullyFundedDate":1739825894964,"projectUrl":"project/supplies-to-support-project-based-learni/9101412/","projectTitle":"Supplies to Support Project Based Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Riddle","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3662662"},{"teacherId":3662662,"projectId":9033270,"letterContent":"Having basic supplies like pencils, pens, markers, and sharpeners donated to our 7th grade classroom has made a noticeable difference in our daily learning environment. These essential tools have removed a significant barrier for many students who might not always have access to them at home. With these supplies readily available, students come to class prepared and ready to engage, which allows us to spend more time focusing on learning and less time dealing with missing materials. The donations have helped create a sense of equality and confidence among the students, ensuring everyone has what they need to participate fully in lessons and activities.\r\n\r\nThese supplies have also supported a more productive and organized classroom. With pens and pencils always on hand, students can complete their assignments without interruption, and the use of markers has enhanced their creativity in projects and presentations. Sharpeners in the classroom mean that students can maintain their tools without disrupting class time. Altogether, these donations have not only provided the physical tools necessary for academic success, but also fostered a classroom culture that values preparedness, responsibility, and learning.","fullyFundedDate":1738813553819,"projectUrl":"project/help-give-my-students-basic-supplies/9033270/","projectTitle":"Help Give My Students Basic Supplies","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Riddle","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3662662"},{"teacherId":5367388,"projectId":9020188,"letterContent":"Thanks to the generous donations we received, my students have been able to dive into exciting art projects using the new canvas panels, paint brushes, and drying racks. Currently, they are working on an art competition for Earth Day, where they are creating vibrant, meaningful artwork that focuses on environmental awareness. The students have already completed two canvas projects—one being a self-portrait—and they are using the drying racks to store their work as it dries. The drying racks have been incredibly helpful, as students now have a designated space for their artwork, which helps keep our classroom organized and gives each student ownership over their projects.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, they were absolutely thrilled! The drying racks, in particular, were a big hit because they allowed students to dry their canvases safely and neatly, and each student now has their own shelf for their work. It was an exciting moment for everyone, as they realized that these supplies would allow them to take their art to the next level. Moving forward, students will continue working on their Earth Day art competition projects, using the canvas panels and paint brushes to explore more complex artistic techniques. These supplies have opened up new possibilities for creative expression, and we are eager to see the results of their hard work in the coming weeks.","fullyFundedDate":1738806451464,"projectUrl":"project/unleashing-creative-potential-enhancing/9020188/","projectTitle":"Unleashing Creative Potential: Enhancing STEAM Learning with Art Supplies","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Thames","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5367388_orig.png?crop=1024,1024,x0,y17&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1751944069681","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/tech-n-teach"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_102658","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":407,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":28,"percentWhite":0,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":69,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":80.6,"schoolId":102658,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Alliance Roberts Ldrshp Academy on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Alliance Roberts Ldrshp Academy","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/los-angeles-unified-school-district/alliance-col-ready-mid-academy-7/102658"}
