The students' reaction was every teacher's dream. When the first box arrived, my students were curious asking questions about the contents of the box. As the other boxes arrived my students would immediately sit on the rug (which arrived in the first box) and would rub it. Three things were happening as I unpacked the remaining boxes. First thing, my students went to the rug without being instructed. Second some of them would feel the texture of the rug. Third, there were no challenges. All three of these actions my students struggle with all day every day and it is emotionally exhausting for them.\r\n The crash pads have given my students more of a voice in the school day. They take refuge on a crash pad when they experience moments that upset them. We have a phrase we use when a student needs time to regroup. The student will stand and ask \"My I crash please? He or she will select a crash pad to begin a regroup. I haven't had to tell a student to return to our lesson yet. This is a game changer.\r\n Your generosity and caring have enabled my students to work through the sensory issues, experience a better school day.","fullyFundedDate":1741558473751,"projectUrl":"project/crushing-it/9006630/","projectTitle":"Crushing It!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Clark","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9874106_orig.jpg?crop=1494,1494,x0,y652&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1734202582161","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9874106"},{"teacherId":9810815,"projectId":8893341,"letterContent":"We are incredibly grateful for your support in making the Morning Band Program at Aldridge Elementary a reality! Thanks to your generosity, our students now have access to high-quality brass and woodwind instruments, essential supplies, and the resources they need to thrive musically.\r\n\r\nThis program, running twice a week from January to June, provides 60 to 90 minutes of dedicated instruction, helping students develop their musical skills while fostering discipline, teamwork, and creativity. We are excited to see their progress and can't wait for them to showcase their hard work in our end-of-year concert—an incredible milestone for our young musicians.\r\n\r\nA special thank you to Keeping The Blues Alive Foundation for supporting our program with much-needed band supplies. Our students were overjoyed to receive these materials, and their enthusiasm is shining through in every rehearsal. For many of them, this is their first experience playing an instrument, and your contribution has made this journey possible.\r\n\r\nThrough DonorsChoose, we continue to secure essential items like Vandoren JUNO Alto Sax Reeds, Rico Bb Clarinet Reeds, and Giardinelli care kits for trumpets, trombones, and flutes. These supplies ensure that our instruments remain in great condition for student use.\r\n\r\nWe would love to share more about our students' experiences! Here are some highlights:\r\n\r\n🎵 How are we using the new resources? Our students are actively learning proper instrument care and technique, ensuring they get the best sound and performance from their instruments.\r\n\r\n🎵 What was their reaction? Pure joy! The excitement on their faces when they first saw their new materials was priceless. It was a moment of inspiration and motivation for them to work even harder.\r\n\r\n🎵 What's next? We are preparing for our first band performance at Aldridge in over a decade during our annual Peace Week celebration this spring! This will be a historic and meaningful event for our school community.\r\n\r\nThank you once again for believing in our students and supporting music education. Your generosity is making a lasting impact, and we can't wait to share their musical journey with you!","fullyFundedDate":1730129266146,"projectUrl":"project/reviving-the-rhythm-morning-band-progra/8893341/","projectTitle":"Reviving the Rhythm: Morning Band Program at AES","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Kumapayi","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9810815_orig.jpg?crop=5463,5464,x0,y1147&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1729521588405","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9810815"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_5789","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":247,"numTeachers":12,"percentFrplEligible":94,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":89,"percentWhite":0,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":10,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"20.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":59.8,"schoolId":5789,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Aldridge Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Aldridge Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/illinois/chicago-public-school-district-299/aldridge-elementary-school/5789"}
