We are currently in the printing process, and once we have that completed we will be using a digital imaging program to add descriptions and such for our final product. If everything goes according to plan, parents will recieve a flipbook of the final \"book.\"\r\n\r\nThis project is allowing students to experience different forms of printing as well as digital influences on the art industry today through integration of biology topics. Student engagement has gone up with the different processes, as well as the understanding of subject matter they have learned in their science classes. The integration of the 2 allows for students to express their knowledge in a different more creative format.\r\n\r\nWe truly appreciate all your help getting this project to work. Your donations made it possible for us to host a successful conference camp-staycation right here in beautiful Greater Charlottesville just two weeks ago.\r\n\r\nThanks to your help, we kept costs low and made this experience accessible for 15 amazing students. Six of those students proudly presented at a national virtual peer tutoring conference, sharing their research and personal insights. Our presenters represented a diverse range of ethnicities, gender identities, and socioeconomic backgrounds, highlighting the strength and inclusiveness of our program.\r\n\r\nYour generosity goes far beyond these 15 individuals. The knowledge and skills gained during the conference are already making an impact in our school and beyond. We've expanded our services to support the Newcomer Center within our county and have even launched virtual tutoring partnerships with another high school in our region that does not have a Center of their own.\r\n\r\nThe camp aspect was a highlight for many students—some experiencing camping for the very first time. Thanks to your donations, we tie-dyed camp shirts, created and screen-printed our own conference design, and enjoyed snacks, drinks, and all the necessary supplies. From first-time s'mores to swag bags filled with pens, notebooks, fun keychains, and flashlights, your kindness made the experience truly unforgettable.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, I am thrilled to share that I will be taking over as the full-time director of the Peer Tutoring Center next year. Your continued support is helping us grow into the most impactful, inclusive, and inspired program we can be.\r\n\r\nThank you again for believing in our students and in our mission. We provided these \"stuffed\" animals to 49 students identified by the Community in the Schools program. Our students very much enjoyed working with the needle felting and many students felt empowered by creating a type of art that was making a difference for others, even if only in a small way. On class surveys several comments were that they would enjoy doing more projects that connected to the community in this way.\r\n\r\nThe 2nd community project is currently under way with students either continuing to explore needle felting or trying wet felting to create a bowl for our Empty Bowls event. Students are enjoying working with materials still, and our goal is to have these bowls done by the end of next week, and be available to purchase at the event on Feb 26th.\r\n\r\nThis has been a project that has touched many students, both in actual creation or the result of the product. The tutors had a blast hosting unboxing parties for each delivery, celebrating your kindness and creativity. As you'll see in the photos, they had fun displaying the boxes and expressing their gratitude in unique ways, all while maintaining their anonymity.\r\n\r\nOnce everything arrived, we eagerly got to work organizing the items and setting up our much-anticipated coffee, hot cocoa, and tea station. This new addition has transformed our space, allowing us to offer warm drinks to the many students who visit our center each hour. It's a small touch that makes a big impact, creating a welcoming environment that encourages students to return. Thanks to your support, we've been able to make the Peer Tutoring Center a warm, safe, and inviting space for all students at AHS. \r\n\r\nThe final piece of our project, repainting the whiteboard with the paint you so kindly provided, is slated for January—we can't wait to tackle this improvement!","fullyFundedDate":1731472052406,"projectUrl":"project/creating-a-home-away-from-home-for-lea/8918658/","projectTitle":"Creating a ‘Home Away From Home’ for Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Banaszak","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3216513_orig.jpg?crop=2316,2316,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1731150175164","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3216513"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_33451","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1971,"numTeachers":144,"percentFrplEligible":43,"percentAsian":8,"percentBlack":16,"percentWhite":47,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":20,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"13.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":79.4,"schoolId":33451,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Albemarle High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Albemarle High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/virginia/albemarle-county-school-district/albemarle-high-school/33451"}
