This project was created to lighten up but learning at the same time. These were some of the activity.\r\n\r\nOne of the activity was perimeter and area lesson. I asked them to create and plan a playground with a given perimeter and area. They have been working so hard for this in a week and they were able to create a miniature version using variety of materials like construction paper, tape, markers, string and more. I asked them to present it to the class. They were very serious and they enjoyed working on their project. \r\nAnother activity was a week celebrating Earth Day of different activities using variety of materials like rock, construction paper, paint materials, pipe stems and more. We also did a study about volcano and observe how volcanic eruptions occur through building, observing the model, and recording the results while discussing Earth's surface changes and more. This activity helps with learning that encourage critical thinking and scientific inquiry.\r\nIn summary, this project will have a meaningful impact to my students, especially during testing season when they were mentally fatigued and few months left for school. All students know they must learn to read and that it is \"good for them.\" But what makes them want to read? What makes them want to sit in front of their peers and sound the words out loud until they get it just right? \r\nTime and time again, I have found the answer to be humor. We love to make each other laugh; and if a book is funny, we will read it! The moment my First graders noticed the Mo Willems books, they asked to read them. They wanted to read to themselves and out loud to each other. It was heart warming and mind blowing. It took nothing but the sight of these books that they recognized to inspire them to read. \r\nThe Fifth and Sixth grade performers were slightly more hesitant and shy. It is a transformative age where many students feel awkward and reluctant to be seen. They would shyly volunteer and read their scripts with silly nonchalance, quickly returning to their seats. When the costume pieces arrived, it was a different story. The student performers swarmed the box claiming what they each wanted for their roles. After that, their characters came to life and each performer was embodying their role more and more fully. \r\nBy the time of the performance, each student had made their role in \"Spring Into Reading w/ Elephant and Piggie\" their own. Instead of seeing scene after scene of the same two characters, each story was brought to life by a different pair of students with their own unique style and confidence. This style and confidence was boosted greatly by the donation of costumes and accessories. Not only was it wonderful having the actual costumes to work with, it was even greater to know that there was someone who cared enough to donate. We are truly grateful for the impact you have had on our classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1775258807084,"projectUrl":"project/spring-into-reading-w-elephant-piggie/10137987/","projectTitle":"Spring Into Reading w/ Elephant & Piggie: 6th Grade Play","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Blanchard","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10460147"},{"teacherId":8024796,"projectId":10197145,"letterContent":"The addition of our laminating machine, laminating pouches, and electric pencil sharpener has brought excitement and improved efficiency to our classroom. Our students are currently participating in our Jumpstart Program, where they attend daily math lessons designed to review essential skills, strengthen understanding, and build confidence for the upcoming school year. The new air purifier has helped create a cleaner, fresher, and more comfortable learning environment where students can focus on instruction with fewer distractions. Since the purifier was placed in our classroom, students have shared that the room feels fresher and more pleasant. Many were curious about how the air purifier works and were excited to learn that it helps improve indoor air quality by filtering dust and other airborne particles. Knowing that their classroom includes resources that support their health and well-being has helped students feel valued and cared for. This simple but meaningful addition has created a welcoming classroom atmosphere where students are eager to participate, collaborate with classmates, and stay engaged throughout our math lessons.\r\n\r\nThe impact of this project has extended beyond improving the physical classroom environment. During our Jumpstart math classes, students have remained focused, enthusiastic, and actively involved in their learning. A comfortable classroom setting plays an important role in helping students maintain concentration as they solve problems, participate in group discussions, and practice new mathematical concepts. As a teacher, I have noticed that students are more confident and willing to engage during lessons because they feel comfortable in their learning space. The positive environment encourages students to share their ideas, ask questions, and work together to find solutions. The air purifier has become an important classroom resource that supports both student wellness and academic success. It has allowed us to create a learning space where students feel prepared and motivated to achieve their goals. We are incredibly grateful for the generous support that made this project possible and for the opportunity to provide students with a classroom environment where they can learn, grow, and do their very best.\r\n\r\nThe success of the Clean the Air for Learning project has inspired us to continue expanding opportunities and resources that support student achievement. We are excited to share that we have launched two new projects: Fueling STEM Exploration with Rechargeable Batteries and Building a Strong Start with Classroom Essentials. The Fueling STEM Exploration with Rechargeable Batteries project will provide reliable power sources for robotics kits, calculators, and other STEM learning tools, allowing students to participate in hands-on activities that encourage creativity, problem-solving, and innovation. The Building a Strong Start with Classroom Essentials project will provide important classroom supplies that students need for daily learning and ensure they begin the school year prepared for success. Together, these projects will strengthen instruction, promote exploration, and provide students with equitable access to valuable learning resources. The impact of the air purifier project has shown us that thoughtful classroom investments can make a lasting difference in student comfort, confidence, and achievement. We sincerely appreciate the generosity and support that help make these opportunities possible.
