It is changing mindsets in our building for teachers, students, and administrators. I'm so grateful to be able to take the lead on this cultural shift in our school, and I couldn't have done so without your help.\r\n\r\nThe teachers who have the boxes in their classrooms designed age-appropriate \"sales pitches\" to explain the rationale for the project. Some looked at data and research, others had students study their own habits by examining the \"screen time\" use numbers on their own devices. Students heard the message loud and clear: you're better as a student when your phone is out of reach. The majority of students put their phones in the box, and continue to turn them in each day.\r\n\r\nLast week, the pilot teachers met to share updates and discuss implementation. One teacher noted that \"the majority of students now do this without being asked,\" and another noted that \"the students who struggle the most with attention are sometimes the most excited about this change.\" Other teachers noted that kids come back from the bathroom/hallways with more speed and that classroom discussions have improved. \r\n\r\nThis improvement in investment, focus, and academic engagement would have been unreachable without your help. Thank you for supporting teachers who believe the research, and for helping us be the adults our students need. One teacher noted \"Even if we add two more boxes to the 10 we already have, it would be exponentially better.\" I'm optimistic that throughout this year, we'll be able to continue this growth.","fullyFundedDate":1760922955849,"projectUrl":"project/classroom-cellphone-storage-piloting-a/9841950/","projectTitle":"Classroom Cellphone Storage: Piloting a Phone-Free Learning Environment","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Prager","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2425697_orig.jpg?crop=2320,2320,x0,y224&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1674499457434","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/teacherprager"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_103503","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":767,"numTeachers":67,"percentFrplEligible":54,"percentAsian":10,"percentBlack":32,"percentWhite":11,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":41,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"11.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":60.2,"schoolId":103503,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Academy of Aerospace & Engineering on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Academy of Aerospace & Engineering","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/connecticut/-county-run-/academy-of-aerospace-and-engineering/103503"}
