Your generous donation allowed us to purchase sensory-friendly activities and creative supplies, including Legos, Play-Doh, construction paper, paint, pipe cleaners, kinetic sand, and other craft materials, for our neurodivergent students and our students with disabilities. \r\n\r\nOur Block Party is a special opportunity for students to step outside of the traditional school day and celebrate together, but we wanted to make sure that celebration was accessible to students of all abilities. Not every student enjoys loud music, crowded activities, or high-energy games, nor is every student physically able to participate in some of the activities, so we created a sensory-friendly space where students could participate in ways that felt comfortable and enjoyable for them.\r\n\r\nThese supplies gave students the opportunity to build, create, explore, and express themselves at their own pace. Whether a student wanted to construct something with Legos, sculpt with Play-Doh, experiment with kinetic sand, or create a colorful craft, there was a way for everyone to be part of the celebration. Most importantly, these activities helped ensure that students who might otherwise feel overwhelmed or left out had a welcoming space to enjoy the day alongside their peers.\r\n\r\nYour generosity helped us send an important message to our students: there is a place for everyone at our Block Party. Your generosity gave my students the opportunity to bring their creativity to life in a hands-on way while deepening their understanding of Shakespeare's famous comedy.\r\n\r\nAs part of our unit, students were tasked with designing and creating their own board game from scratch based on the characters, themes, conflicts, and events of \"Twelfth Night.\" They had to think critically about the play and then transform their understanding of Shakespeare into an engaging game that their classmates could actually play. From developing rules and game pieces to designing colorful boards and creating questions and challenges, students had to combine reading comprehension, analysis, writing, problem-solving, and collaboration.\r\n\r\nThe paint and art supplies made such a difference because students weren't just completing another assignment—they were creating something they could be proud of. I have been out on maternity leave. \r\n\r\nI cannot thank you enough for your help in getting the lacrosse nets funded. It completely changed the way that lacrosse club was run. Last year, without the nets, we were so limited on what we could do. Because of your generous donation, I was able to run so many new drills this season. With the lacrosse nets we were able to incorporate shooting drills, 1v1 and 2v2s, and lacrosse games like power and finesse. Not only that, but the nets allowed students to actually visualize the game and understand spacing for basic defensive and offensive skills. \r\n\r\nIn addition to the new drills, I would say the greatest impact the nets had was increasing student engagement and fun! Students really seemed to enjoy themselves when they had a chance to shoot and score- it was a confidence booster and added so much purpose. Other students who walked by during practice would often pick up spare sticks and shoot at the net. It was a way to grow the game and draw in new players. \r\n\r\nFrom the bottom of my heart, thank you so incredibly much! Putting together this event took many, MANY months of planning and considerable manpower (as well as blood, sweat, and tears—both figuratively and literally). \r\n\r\nOne thing that helped make the process smoother was not having to worry about how we were going to fund all of the materials that we needed. We received SO many crucial items thanks to your generous donations, including a cotton candy machine and a sno-cone machine (both huge hits with the kids!!), photo booth decorations, food supplies, giant Jenga, and giant dominoes. What's more amazing is that ALL of these items can be used again and again for years to come.\r\n\r\nThe best part of the whole event, however, was seeing how much joy it brought the students. The Lip Sync Battle, Talent Show, and Family Feud game are beloved traditions at ALA, and they present an incredible opportunity to build community and bring students together in a way that academics can't.\r\n\r\nIt became clear early on, however, that this building lacked the equipment necessary to run these events smoothly. This is where your donations came in! The microphone stands, extension cords, and piano bench we were able to buy as a result of your generosity have expanded what we're able to do with our events. Our student musicians are able to play freely without worrying about holding a mic at the same time! The piano bench allows our students to play piano without accidentally rolling all over the place (we previously had been using an office chair with wheels...not exactly ideal). And longer extension cords mean less risk of students tripping all over the place!\r\n\r\nAs I have with every other completed project, I feel so grateful that you took time out of your day to read about our project, donate, and spread the word.
