Currently there is no option for visually displaying stories, writing examples, or any other activities without making individual copies for each student. So my visual learners are at a disadvantage. Our classroom has a projector, but sadly nothing to connect to it! Help us become better writers!
I have 39 students from many different cultural backgrounds.
Many are classified as English language learners with a handful speaking little to no English. Many students are audible learners, however the majority are visual learners. Specifically those who are not only learning to speak the English language, but those who are learning to read and write the English language. Each of my 39 students comes with a different set of skills and struggles. They all have such a great love of learning it is truly inspiring to see their minds at work each day.
My Project
My students need an Elmo document camera to share their writing with their peers and to work on new skills that will improve their writing. Second grade students do not have the longest attention span as it is, much less second grade students who have to follow along in a story or discussion via a print out on their desk. The document camera would allow the entire class to be viewing the same story, writing example, etc, giving the teacher the opportunity to point out the key topics. Instead of printing out 39 different copies to show the class one example of good writing, the document camera allows the teacher to show the entire class the example for one print out. How many times in class did you stare at your desk and pretend to be diligently working while actually in a far away place day dreaming? It also allows the teacher to make sure the students focus is on the screen rather than the pencil rolling across the students desk. Students want to learn with a document camera!
Writing, in a second grader's mind, can sometime be a chore.
My goal is to get my students excited about the entire writing process from start to finish. With the document camera we will be able to celebrate each student's accomplishments as a class by sharing their written work on the document camera. Seeing their writing displayed in such a way will instill a sense of pride in their accomplishments. Please help us grow in our love of writing!
