Kindergarten children will have the opportunity to observe live wild animals brought to us by the San Francisco Zoo and the wonderful Zoomobile. They will use all their senses in a year-long unit which will carry on much longer than the visits from the animals. As a kindergarten teacher for 27 years, I will take the lead with all four kindergarten classes and provide lessons on animals and their habitats. I have been a science mentor teacher for the District and have provided workshops for City Science. Our school has many non and limited English students who will definitely benefit greatly from the Zoomobile visits. All students will practice readiness skills in reading, writing, and math as well as oral language before, during, and after the animal experiences. I am requesting that each of the four kindergarten classes have two visits from the Zoomobile which will include lessons on "The Wild City" and "Habitats". Approximately 85 students will benefit from the experience. The Zoomobile visits will greatly enhance the classroom learning of animals and their habitats. In addition, the senses will be used to further learning in all areas of the curriculum including beginning Kinder-science. Thank you for your consideration.
