My Students

Wisconsin Fast Plants allow students to observe the entire plant life cycle in 40 days!

My Second graders represent a diverse cross-section of America.

Students' cultural backgrounds range from Latin American immigrants to those that are only here temporarily due to their parents' professions. Their energy, intensity, and thirst for knowledge drives me to continue to retool and rethink my teaching in order to inspire and connect with our future generation!

My Project

With the help of the genetically engineered Wisconsin Fast Plants, Light House, plant poster, Fast Plant and Bottle Botany curriculum from Carolina Biological, students will observe the entire plant life cycle from seed to seed in only 40 days. We will observe the stem and flower growth, in addition to cross-pollinate the flowers with freeze-dried bees. The Wisconsin Fast Plants complement our second grade Plant Study.

The incredible magic of nature will be realized through scientific investigation.

Each student will plant, care for and observe their own plants. Students will move beyond a general knowledge of botany to an understanding of how new plant life is made-harvesting seeds from their original plants that they can later plant at home!
