My Project

I teach in a school where the student population is linguistically and culturally diverse, and which services a community with families from all over the world. I am always looking for highly engaging, creative ways to tap into my students' hunger for knowledge and their curiosity about the world, whether it is through art, music, dance, or literature.

I see the exciting possibilities that I can make available to my students who need opportunities to explore creative and critical thinking through different learning modalities.

This project will supply my second grade class with high quality, fine tip black pens to explore the beautiful art form of Zentangle, a favorite art activity in my classroom. When practicing Zentangle, the artist draws striking images made with structured patterns of lines and shapes. It's an art form that is not only fun, but is often described as relaxing and meditative. Simply by using a fine tip pen and a sheet of drawing paper, my students will be able to engage in something creative, expressive, and artistic, but also something that will help them de-stress and reduce the anxiety we sometimes feel.

Pigma micron pens are also used widely in other creative, artistic expression, including watercolor sketching, cartooning, and scrapbook lettering - all of which I will also explore with my students. This set of pens will replace a very old, worn out class set that has been used for several years. We would greatly appreciate having a fresh set of pens for creating art!
