My Project

We want to create a Zen Den wellness space within the guidance suite for our school community. This will be a place where students and staff can go to take time for themselves, decompress, and practice self-care during the school day. Research has shown that mindfulness is an extremely effective method for young people to focus and, incidentally, improve their classroom work. Each attendant will set a 10 - 15 minute timer so they can immerse themselves in mindfulness and relaxation therapy. Relaxation techniques differ for each individual and may consist of, but are not limited to mindfulness, meditation, music therapy, art therapy, aromatherapy, yoga, and breathing techniques.

The goal of this project is to help raise awareness among students and staff on how to reduce anger and frustration, improve focus and mood, lower fatigue, and reduce the activity of stress hormones in order to be more available and effective learners.
