My Students
I work in a Title I city school that is constantly cutting the budget. My students come from low income, high poverty families. Despite these challenges, I hope to give these children the same experiences students of the same age group get in other districts.
To educate does not mean merely to feed the students with knowledge, but to help them to master the process of investigating and understanding what and why the knowledge is being fed to them.
My students have been working really hard at home. We are completely virtual and this makes it difficult for them to practice reading. They are doing their best during our zoom lessons to learn letters and sounds and how to put those sounds together, but I want to get some real books in their hands.
My Project
We are all virtual and I am looking to mail out some more packages to my students. I have mailed one set of packages and it cost me $2.80 per student to mail some worksheets I printed at home and 4 small decodable books.
I am looking for some help to get these kids more decodable books to read at home and more worksheets for them to practice writing on.
I will use the stamps and envelopes to mail the students easy readers so that they can read at home daily. I teach in a different state than I live in so it is very difficult for me to get the students what they need while we are virtual. I don't want the students to fall behind because they do not have books at home.
I created two projects for this cause. This one that includes stamps and envelopes and Part 2 that has already been funded with all the decodable books.
