Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Every day my students come to class with high hopes. They are creative, thoughtful, and excited. We start each day having breakfast together, and it would be great to reflect on our learning using videos of student performances, presentations, speeches, and dramatizations during that time.
My school is a Title I school with 100% of the students eligible for free and reduced price lunch.
The students are hard working, inquisitive, and dedicated to learning and improving themselves. Most don't have access to the Internet or current technologies and equipment. They have so many questions and their current curriculum only leads to more questions. There is so much I want them to learn and experience, but so few resources to share and only so much knowledge I can offer, it's just not enough! They deserve more.
My Project
This year we'll be starting some new STEM units designed to get students researching, experimenting, building, testing, and fixing to solve real world problems with real world tools. One of those units is water quality. Students will be using portable water filters and purifiers like the Potable Aqua PURE Water Purifier and Electrolytic Drinking Water Treatment Device, the Grayl water filtration and purification device, and the Katadyn Hiker water filter, as well as purification tablets, home-made drip filter systems, and old fashioned boiled water. Water testing kits will be used to evaluate the quality of the water in order to determine best practices. I can't wait to see the reports and find out what those kids were willing to drink!
