My Students

Wow!Did you know there are meat eating plants? Did you know tornadoes can reach speeds of 400 mph? Kids LOVE reading and learning about science! State standards are constantly changing and to keep current is difficult with old science books and materials.

Our 2nd grade students are 7-8 year olds with very diverse socio-economic backgrounds.

They are curious, human sponges wanting to learn about everything that is cool, unique and GROSS! Our school is a suburban public school with a free/reduced lunch rate between 40 and 50%.

My Project

State curriculum standards are constantly changing and trying to keep up with information and curriculum to provide for students to empower them is difficult. Funds are tight as they are in all schools. As years pass information changes but not always the resources we use to teach the information we need to. Weekly Reader is an innovative award-winning classroom magazine that is filled with current, up to date information presented in a high interest way for 2nd grade students. Pictures, stories, REAL photos and activities provided also help to build literacy for the students. It also helps them to learn about the world around them outside of the classroom and their own backyard. Students will be not only able to learn through the magazine but also through interactive digital editions, assessments for monitoring their learning and teachers can link topics and skills to the current standards.

Donations to this request will help our 2nd grade students be up to date with current information they NEED to know about the world around them.

Not just from a tired old text book but through new exciting and innovative information provided by Weekly Reader. Most of all, students will be successful academically because they ENJOY learning when it's interesting. Weekly Reader helps us do that...make learning interesting and fun!
