Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school has students from a wide array of diverse backgrounds. Over 99% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch as well as bags of food sent home on weekends. We provide a food pantry and a free clothing closet as many of our families struggle to provide these necessities.

I am lucky to have a large group of eager to learn, first grade students, most of whom are learning English.

I work in a school that teaches in a bilingual format. In my case, I teach the English half of two classes that swap every two weeks between my classroom and one that teaches entirely in Spanish. Because of this format, your donations will touch two full classes of students.

My Project

My students need a variety of quality literacy center materials in order to learn to read and write in English independently. As first graders, they are expected to grow exponentially from when they were in kindergarten. Letter tiles, cubes, and blocks, as well as low-level readers, will allow my students to grow and feel successful.

My students are determined to read and write fluently in two languages.

Allowing them to work on their own or in small groups to learn to spell, read, write, and gain English vocabulary words will make a huge difference in their journey. The materials provided by this project will allow all of this through fun, engaging, activities.
