This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The students who attend FPES in Fort Myers, Florida come from a low social economic background and the school is located in an area of the county with a high poverty rate and across the street from a housing project. Our school is a Title I school, which means most of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch. These students have to overcome many obstacles just to come to school each day. Most are responsible to wake themselves up, get dressed and dress their younger siblings. If they don't wake up, they don't come to school. This school is their safe haven from an otherwise desperate living environment.
My students love to learn about the world around them but have limited opportunities to leave their neighborhood.
I would like to expose them to the city and county outside of their immediate neighborhood and afford them with opportunities to take advantage of activities outside of their own neighborhood. This exposure will broaden their experiences and allow them to "learn by doing."
My Project
These neckties and belts are needed as a learning tool to teach our students proper business attire, and how to dress for success. These students will learn how to tie a neck tie and the importance of becoming successful members of society. Our group also focuses on community involvement and community pride.
The students that are picked for this club come from an adverse background where these skills will be critical in their progression through life.
This club will also expose these young men to professionals in their community, that could eventually lead to a career decision. Thank you in advance for your help and participation.
