This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Many of my students have already lived through difficult life challenges and they are only 4 and 5 years old. As students of a low income, high risk demographic, security and stability are paramount to their success. Pre-school is the foundation for academic success. I am looking to provide them with a classroom experience that gives them the confidence to explore and engage imagination through literacy, numeracy, science, and the arts.
My students have vivid imaginations.
When given the opportunity to create, they will plan then attempt to develop what they have planned. They are excited by the notion of creating something that no one else in the class has ever created! Whether it is a new story in which they are the author and illustrator or it is a castle in which they are the architect - these students are not afraid to create it.
My Project
My students love to create! The new art materials will breathe new life into our art area - which currently looks very sad. We have minimal supplies but we do the best we can with what we have. We have been working with only 3 paint colors and 4 paper colors since the beginning of the school year. Of course, these children have no idea what they are missing. I can just imagine the looks on their faces when they see the glitter paints and collage sets! They will be so excited to make beautiful artwork!
We believe in allowing students to create without boundaries.
We celebrate their unique artistic vision and we are always thrilled to put it on display!
We have made plans to utilize the new art materials to create: color collages to learn more about colors, paintings that reflect illustrations from the storybooks shared in class, beads/buttons for stringing and counting activities, paper for drawings, painting and collage activities, make a face for lessons on emotions.
