Earning your Young American Award is a "Big Deal" in 5th grade. It's going the extra mile in all things America and learning to become a better American citizen. The requirements are tough but so worth it when a student accomplishes the goals and receives the Young American Award.
Some of the requirements are: Memorizing all states, capitals, and abbreviations.
Students must be able to place each state properly on a United States map. Complete a 51 page crossword book on every state including Washington DC. Understanding the Branches of Government, our state senators, governor and first lady. Complete service hours and write thank you notes to service men and women in our community. Graduate from DARE.
As you can read this is not an easy endeavor and it takes lots of extra time but is so important to accomplish and learn the be an active, positive member of your community. I believe in teaching them young. I'm asking for these rewards to give students that have achieved this honor and to present the gifts at the rewards ceremony.
