You Want to Read About Sports and Classic Cars? Yes!
Help me give my students the chance to read some high interest magazines on cars, sports, and other current events. This is something that they've requested several times, and my hopes in providing it will strengthen their interested.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work with a group of 30 special education students. My students are thoughtful and enjoy filling their creatives minds. They are motivated to complete their projects, in-class assignments, and homework. Most of the students come to school earlier than the rest, so that they're able to be prepared. It's truly a proud moment as a teacher to see students taking initiative of their education.
Several of my male students come to my library, wondering if there are more non-fictional material about sports, current events, and cars.
Our school is nestled in the heart of Wilmington, where families often struggle to make ends meet. In these households, there is no internet, or means to access the internet, let alone, print items off the internet. Often times, male students are overlooked but they encompass a majority of my caseload.
Each student deserves the opportunity to equity, even if they need more resources. As a Special Education teacher, I try to provide for all of my students. However, in this instance, I fall short because my students do not have the reading material that interests them most.
My Project
My students must keep up with the latest advancements in education to spark an interest in reading. Education is changing every single day, and so are the interest of my students. Students in my classroom like to read about classic cars, trucks and sports. My school reading center doesn't have a large collection of magazines and books on these topics, so I would like to have some that will hold their interests and keep them reading in my classroom.
Struggling readers will often pick up a comic book or magazine because the pictures and visuals are less intimidating than a typical book.
Students who read these find reading fun and begin to read more for enjoyment! Helping students begin to learn that reading is fun is perfect way to build better readers. Magazines are a great gateway to better reading skills for reluctant readers. My students will love getting their hands on a magazine!
