You Light Up My Shapes!

Help me give my students a fun way to interact with shapes! These boards help preschool students develop skills in identifying and matching geometric shapes, combining and taking apart shapes, and understanding spatial relationships.

My Project

My students are 3-5 year old preschoolers, many of whom have special needs. I teach in the 4th most highly diverse school district in Washington state.

I am constantly on the hunt for multisensory approaches with my young students, like these light boards.

My students really enjoy trying to figure out how to put the shapes together to make common objects they're familiar with like trains, butterflies, etc. I know that the more they are able to engage with and discover with shapes, the more they learn about the world around them.

These boards are used during guided play, at a table station, as an opportunity for students to learn more about shapes and art. The teacher sits with students and shows them various ways the shapes can be used to help them create art and solve problems.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
