Help me give my students an experience in electroplating metals to show them a hands-on oxidation/reduction reaction in chemistry. We need batteries, copper sulfate solution, beakers and more.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
My chemistry students were in a strictly online class before they came to me. The students get so excited when I plan a hands-on lab activity for them. The lab activities make a big difference in their learning experience especially for students that are kinesthetic learners. My goal for this project is that the students see a redox reaction in a practical way, using these materials, and not just an abstract idea they see in a diagram. I considered my students to be special because we live in an economically disadvantaged community and the students have to work very hard to be accepted and continue enrollment in this early college program for the local public high school.
