My Students

As the Music and Movement teacher, my students range from kindergarten to fifth grade. The students are learning disabled, emotionally disturbed, and most students have a level of attention deficit disorder and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. My students have various levels of learning and abilities. There is a great range among my students in each of my classrooms.

Touching instruments, strumming strings, singing and listening to music is soothing, and students learn music appreciation.

By engaging students with hands-on materials, I will be able to lead them into explorations, explanations, and extended studies of music, musicians, singing and instruments.

My Project

A ukulele is a small guitar with four strings. For my students, the ukulele will be easy to hold and play. In my Music and Movement class, students enjoy using the acoustic guitars, which are much larger that ukuleles. With a ukulele, students can learn to play songs. Students enjoy making pleasant music and having enough instruments for students to spend time practicing will be a tremendous advantage.

Learning to play an instrument uses multiple skills.

Learning to play the ukulele will develop fine motor skills, build confidence as students learn and perform songs in class, and will give students a connection to the world of music. This is a simple instrument to learn to play and mastering the ukulele can lead students to learn to play many other instruments.
