With the funded materials, our students were able to create props, decorate costumes, design sets, and use communication supports that helped bring the story to life. Seeing the book transform into a live performance helped our students connect with the story in a meaningful and engaging way. The students used movement, visuals, and assistive communication to retell the story together. With support from teachers, therapists, and staff across the school, the production became a truly inclusive and adaptive experience where every student could participate. \r\n\r\nOne of the most important parts of our DonorsChoose project was being able to give each student a copy of the book to take home and share with their families. In each book, we included a visual language board and a QR code with the songs from the show. This performance was the result of months of scaffolding skills; working on story grammar elements, sequencing, acting out scenes, following directions and communicating with peers. Students have had the pleasure to make pizza, tacos ,banana bread, cakes and pies. They have gone home to share with their parents the amazing things they have made which creates a great sense of autonomy. Thanks to all of you!
