Help me give my students graphic novels on social justice issues to help them become informed young adults.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Gaw's classroom raised $599
This project is fully funded
My Students
We are a K-12 residential school for students with sensory impairments. All of our students are sensory impaired and many of them have an additional disability. We have students living on and off-campus. Our residential students come from all across our state and live on our campus Sunday through Friday. Our school is considered a high poverty school.
Our students need access to specialized materials including braille, large print, and graphic novels.
My Project
I am requesting a collection of age-appropriate graphic novels on social justice topics for our hearing impaired students. Due to sensory impairments, many of our students lack background information on a variety of topics, including bias, diversity, and social justice.
Since our hearing impaired students' first language is American Sign Language, they struggle with English and need graphic novels to help them construct meaning from text.
We want our students to understand and accept people from diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds. Having access and reading materials on social justice issues will help them become more informed young adults.
