The majority of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch. Our school is a residential school for students with sensory impairments. All of the students are visually or hearing impaired and many have additional disabilities. Due to a lack of incidental learning, most concepts need to be taught through direct instruction. Our students read regular print, large print, and braille. Since we are buying materials in so many formats, we need additional funding to supplement our collection. We use a variety of literacy materials in various formats to build vocabulary and concept development. Our students read well below grade level and motivating them to read at an early age is crucial.
