Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Compassion is defined as the feeling that arises when you perceive another’s suffering and feel motivated to relieve that suffering. We recently had a project funded for our retirement community where they created care packages to deliver to over 24 patients.
We want to continue our communication with the elderly, across the street, by writing cards and sending special cards for their birthdays.
I want my students to see the world through the eyes of another person, the elderly. I've explained how many are forgotten or lack regular visitors and just a message of kindness and love can go a long way. I want the students to put their shoes in another persons feelings and truly understand what compassion is without getting anything in return.
To measure their success in understanding what compassion is, we will have a survey where student can answer questions about compassion and see their results in a bar graph. Then we will use the results in a group discussion. There are so many people who suffer in so many ways and a simple note can spark love and hope in anyone.
