Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is located in an urban district. Many students ranging from age 5-11 make up our largely diverse student body. These students have a variety of needs ranging from speech, occupational therapy and social-emotional support. My goal is to do what it takes to meet the needs and advocate for the students in my school.

Each child in our school is filled with curiosity and loves learning, although their learning needs may vary greatly.

Many of my students require individualized learning strategies to help them develop their social -emotional needs to achieve success in school.

My Project

This is a continuation of my last project. We tried a pilot 15 minute yoga and mindfulness workshop with 3 fifth grade students. Since then it has grown to 6 students who have been regularly attending so now we need more yoga mats!

Students are learning coping skills as well as how to form positive connection with their peers.

Additionally, students are learning how their brains work and why remaining present and in the moment is important as well as how yoga can help our bodies release "feel good" chemicals in our bodies.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
