This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have students who are highly motivated in choir. They want to sing a variety of music. Extreme budget cuts in our state mean we have to get creative to fund our choir program.

I work on the south side of a metropolitan city.

There are many factors that do not let our students focus on school. Many kids work after school and weekends. Many kids help raise their younger siblings. Despite everything stacked against them, my school has some of the best kids in the state.

My Project

Our school recently built a new building. We unfortunately do not have a gym or a space to do athletic activity. I have a large choir room and want my students and others a chance to move and release their stress.

We need yoga mats so I can invite yoga instructors into my classroom.

Yoga teaches breathing, control and release. It also gets you to move without using much space. Yoga fits the need in my school to help get my students active without needing a gym. Especially with the testing and graduation in the spring, yoga will help my students relieve tension and stress at school.
