My students need yoga mats and activity cards to use in the classroom to practice breathing and mindfulness in order to be calm and focused during the school day.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a special education teacher in an urban elementary school, serving a culturally diverse neighborhood with a disadvantaged socio-economic background. I teach 4th and 5th grade students with a variety of disabilities. The majority of my students have severe learning disabilities in reading, writing, and math. Many of my students face challenges with inattention and sensory processing. Due to limited resources, it has been extremely difficult to acquire the necessary resources for my students receiving special education. To meet my students' need and increase engagement with lessons, my students require integration of technology, kinesthetic movement, tactile manipulatives, visual aids, and high-interest reading material. Therefore, in order to enhance the curriculum, I am constantly trying to come up with ways to find supplies, resources, and manipulatives for my students. My students, as well as myself, would truly appreciate any support you may offer!
These resources will make a huge difference in my students' lives.

My Project
I plan to incorporate yoga into my class and need the use of yoga mats to help my students increase their social and emotional well-being. Research suggests that school-based yoga cultivates competencies in mind-body awareness and self-regulation. Through yoga, my students will learn to manage stress, emotions, and behaviors. Using yoga activity cards and the book, Little Flower Yoga for Kids, my class will improve attention and emotional balance.
I want to incorporate yoga and mindfulness into my students' day to teach them self-regulation strategies which will help them find calmness, patience, and peace.
