This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are incredible! I have twenty-four, motivated, English language learners who are eager to learn.

My students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds with limited resources available.

We are a Title One funded, Performance Improvement school with a one hundred percent free lunch program. Many parents work two jobs and are struggling to support their families. Though their environments may not always be conducive to learning, they have an insatiable love of learning!

My Project

Happy 2022 to you and all that are loved! Every culture has a different way of celebrating the new year and I would like to celebrate Lunar New Year with my class. I have students who are Asian and they celebrate this festive occasion yearly with their families. Incorporating culturally relevant activities and lessons are so important because we want the students to see themselves in what we do! We live in a melting pot of all cultures and recognizing all is imperative.

February 1, 2022 is the first day of Lunar New Year and it's important to teach inclusion and cultural diversity!

We will read the books such as Ruby's Chinese New Year, watch videos about the traditions of Lunar New Year, and sample candy, such as the White Rabbit milk candy, for a sweet treat! We will have fun playing bingo with the Lunar New Year cards.

The backdrop will be used to display in front of our school. We will also hang the red lanterns in front of the school for good luck and each student will receive a red envelope with a written wish.

What a wonderful way to celebrate diversity and inclusion! Let's ring in the Year of the Tiger together!
