My Students

Most of my students come from families struggling to overcome poverty in the Appalachian foothills of Northeastern, Kentucky. More than 75% of my students qualify for free or reduced-price lunches. These children are eager to learn, experience new problem-solving strategies, and explore their talents.

I want to offer my students an opportunity to embrace diversity and appreciate all families within our community.

My Project

Students will read about a variety of different families. Then, they will draw their own family and share their portraits with the class. These conversations will build diversity appreciation, improve communication skills, enhance social interactions with peers, engage creativity, and foster artistic development.

My goal is to end bullying based on perceptions of "the other" by showing children that every person has value, and families are built on love.

Imagine a world where diversity is celebrated and no one is made to feel bad or less than for being different.
