My Students

Many of my students come from a high level of poverty. The opportunity to take part in extracurricular activities like arts programs can be limited due to the cost of participating.

It is integral that arts programs continue to remain a part of the school curriculum, so that students who otherwise cannot afford to participate in performance groups can have the chance to do so through the school music department.

My students have been learning to read musical notation and are learning about improvisation! Xylophones are one of the best tools to apply these skills, but our building doesn’t have many. Please help us achieve our goal of less wait time, more play time!

My Project

Improvisation, melody, harmony, accompaniment…the list of possibilities is endless! Classroom instruments are used daily in the music room to teach these musical skills and more! Students can compose and perform their own projects, and work together as a team to do so. We currently are using glockenspiels that are older than I am. Xylophones have removable bars to make playing easier for small hands. Students can tailor their instruments to fit their compositions. With your help, my students will be sitting and waiting less, and playing and creating more. Thank you for helping us achieve this dream!
