My students need another xylophone in the music room. We currently have 5 that 30 students share in rotation.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I would like all my students (K-6) to have proficiency with mallet skills on xylophones.
Over 100 languages are represented in our school district.
Our school is 80% free and reduced lunch. Student body make-up is Asian, Pacific Islanders, Native American, African American and many countries in Africa.
Many of our students come from homes without access to musical opportunities, for example, students' families often can't afford piano lessons, symphony tickets etc. Their experience with music is left to opportunities in school and listening to their electronic devices.
My Project
With more xylophones in the classroom, students won't have to wait as long to play an instrument. We use Orff based instruction, which means xylophones are used almost daily. The more opportunity for playing, the sooner students become proficient, the more material we can cover.
Donations for new xylophones will help alleviate students having to wait their turn on instruments.
When students are bored, behaviors are not far behind. Keeping students engaged is key, and them feeling successful is huge! More practice = more success. When given limited opportunity to play an instrument, it follows that students will struggle more with proficiency. Students love playing instruments!
