This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The xylophone requested here is very durable and has bars which are well-known for not going out of tune. This is important for sustainability. Children hit fairly heavily, and bars made of softer or weaker wood can tend to lose tone quality and even pitch over time.

With mallets, students use these instruments to learn about melody, harmony, borduns, pitch, rhythms, steady beat, common pulse, playing as a team, composition and rehearsal and performance processes.

We use these instruments learning new pieces, but also can use them to create pieces of our own, either individually or in small groups. Sometimes we even compose as a whole class!
