Music education is one of the best ways for students in elementary school to find outlets for creativity and self expression. At our school, we want to not only see students achieve and reach the standards set before them in all areas, but to also specifically find music education a time to explore sounds, rhythms, cultures, games, and singing.
While music education is typically lacking in funding for extra instruments and resources, we want to offer the best opportunities for group play, exploring, and learning.
Our school just received Title I status, so our students thrive when they are introduced to new instruments, new songs, new activities and ways of connecting and being creative in the music room.
My Project
Research shows that music enhances learning in all subject areas. Our students currently do not have a class set of any instrument available to implement all they are learning in music education. A good music education is going to allow ways for students to have access to instruments that allow them to play music and create their own melodies and accompaniments.
Xylophones would allow students a way to hear melodies they can create on their own, and also allow them to play music together as a class.
Having a class set of xylophones would allow them this experience.
