My Students

I am a third grade teacher in an urban school setting. One hundred percent of my students participate in our free breakfast and lunch programs. My classroom is composed of regular education students. Students in my room come from a variety of backgrounds and learning styles. Many of my students come from single-parent homes and have great difficulty bringing in basic school supplies.

My third grade students are now reading to learn instead of learning to read.

My students come to school eager to learn every day. They especially love using technology. The majority of my students read below grade level. They would benefit from a variety of classroom resources to help increase their success in school. I want my students to be able to use technology in the classroom on a daily basis, as well as be prepared for high school and beyond. Planning exciting computer activities into my daily lessons is a goal of mine.

My Project

This year, my third grade students are taking the Ohio State Test in Reading. This is one test that is used for the Third Grade Reading Guarantee. Each student is expected to write a multi-paragraph essay on this on-line assessment. Our school uses the R.A.C.E.S. method to teach writing. In order for my students to receive their full 10 points on the writing portion of the test, they are expected to type a 5 paragraph essay. Throughout the year, several writing prompts are written and printed out for display in our classroom. Our school does not have a color printer to print out the students' published works, so I use my own color printer at home. The color ink goes fast for 24 students' multi-paragraph essays.

I believe it is important for my students to to see their work in color.

I want them to be proud of what they have written. In addition, I want them to know that I value what they have to say. By having this HP color ink, my students' writings and colored illustrations will be brought to life!
