Writing Wonders & Math Magic

Help me give my students new hands on writing activities, like our Trace and Write Alphabet box and the "Let's pretend Restaurant" writing box. They'll also get a new math addition & subtraction building kit and measurement kit.

My Students

I work in a bilingual Head Start program located in North Philly. Children learn best with hands on activities and active play; however, with a limited budget and a total of 23 classrooms, materials that best suit their needs can be hard to come by. My students are all from low-income families, yet every day they enter my classroom with smiles and hugs for the teachers.

My students love hands on learning.

I want to supply materials and activities that will really relate to themselves and apply the concepts I am teaching to their everyday routines.

My Project

My students love hands-on activities and these math and writing activities will really build confidence and fun in the classroom. The trace and write letters will help my lower level learners gain confidence before using writing tools and build a letter kit will encourage not only pre-writing skills but also fine motor skills.

Math and literacy skills will be combined in my dramatic play area with the The Let's Pretend Restaurant, that encourages both imagination and writing skills as students will be able to "write" out peer orders for foods and use the magnetic pictures and numbers to build math skills.

Finally, the math kit will help encourage easy visual addition and subtraction that my students are really starting to dig into and enjoy.
