As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to creating a classroom culture where students can use the skills they already have to master content using technology.
My students have strong verbal skills, and they can be spontaneous, I believe these strengths will serve them well in composition writing and responding to text.
Having a set of Chromebooks in my classroom will certainly create the motivation to record their writings, and not worry about spelling. This will definitely activate their creative juices, and increase student engagement.
Many of them are being raised in single parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. I currently have emergent readers and writers in my classroom. I hope to do things differently by creating lots of opportunities for students to create authentic pieces by exploring the use of podcast, video journaling and recording devices to respond to text or brainstorming sessions.
My students need four Chromebooks to provide support for struggling readers and writers. My students have great stories to tell. It is less of a struggle to orally tell these stories. When they are asked to take the next step to put pen to paper they become hesitate and you can literally see their creative juices being stifled.
Having four Chromebooks as part of my writing corner will greatly improve the willingness of my students to share their experiences and respond to text in Google classroom.
This option will increase student engagement and less anxiety knowing that they will have the teacher or peer support as an editor while they write.
They will have real time feedback to take their piece of writing from good to great. Beginners can use the speech to text feature working independently.
