This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My first-grade students are all done with reading and math MAPs: standardized testing is finally done and I can't wait to share their growth! I want them to celebrate their growth in meeting their goals. I want them to know that continuing to read and practice will allow them to reach their goals. Their reward will be treats, LCD writing tablets, and some fun toys to celebrate going to second grade.

This year was a bit of a roller coaster for me and my first graders: we faced some changes and challenges.

However, they overcame them by getting to know each other, watching SEL videos to learn how to breathe and deal with conflict, and working on remedial and enrichment programs to help them close some learning gaps.

My students have enjoyed learning to read, trying different strategies in math, and becoming good writers. They learned to embrace mistakes and value each others' opinions. They learned the importance of having empathy, complimenting each other to build confidence, and using strategies such as breathing when a situation arises.

My goal was to provide my students with tools and resources to help them learn to self-advocate and learn to celebrate their diversity and mistakes.
